Derek is facing yet another Christmas where his life feels out of control. He has a new career that doesn’t feel like his, and parents who would just love to see him settled down. All he needs is a temporary buffer for the parties he has to attend, and for his parents to leave him alone. Enter, Luke.

Luke is twenty-thousand dollars short for the renovations on Halligans; his family’s bar in New York’s Financial District. A favor for a buddy has him agreeing to play the part of boyfriend to a guy with more money than sense.

But when the spirit of Christmas works its magic on the two men, and they begin to fall for each other, Derek runs scared, and Luke needs space.

It doesn’t matter what obstacles you throw in the way of love, or how much you run in the other direction, because, when you’re least expecting it, whether you want it or not, love happens anyway.

I knew Marcus was six-two, just a little taller than me. I knew he had blue eyes, and dark hair with red tones in certain light. He had a brother, but they didn’t see each other much, being that his brother was in the Navy. His parents were retired in Florida, but they’d had Marcus and his brother Adam late in life. Marcus was twenty-nine, same as me with only a few months separating our birthdays, and he was a firefighter. Oh, and he was a good, kind man who was thoughtful all the time and treated me like a prince.

“That’s such a shame. Anyway, how are Marcus’ kittens?” Mom asked. I pulled myself back to what she was saying. It was never good to not pay full attention to anything Mom said, otherwise you’d end up agreeing to all kinds of things she’d throw at you when your defenses are down. I loved her dearly but she was sneaky like that.

Which is how I got myself into this mess with Marcus in the first place.

“They’re fine.”

“Did he find good homes for them?”

“Absolutely, the last of them went to a widowed grandmother in his apartment block.”

“Socks? The dark one?”

I glanced at my notes. “No, you remember Socks went to his uncle; Spider went to the old lady.”

“Oh yes, of course, although why someone would name a kitten Spider I don’t know.”

“There were spiders in the house where Marcus found the kittens.”

“I still don’t understand how there could be spiders in a burned-out house.”

Shit. “Spiders are hardy.”

“You said the house was razed to the ground, dear.”

Now I was losing the will to live. “Well, maybe the spider was outside. Mom, I need to go, Moira is at the door and she needs me to sign off on the new AbbaLister raisins account.”

“Of course dear, just, please tell Marcus he is welcome at any time. We so want to meet him and thought it’d be better at the house.”

“I will, I know he’s keen to meet you.”

“Oh good,” she said, and I knew I’d fucked up and somehow given her an opening. I’d never mentioned once that Marcus wanted to meet them, because that would just give them the impetus to take matters into their own hands. My worst fears were confirmed. “Oh, I’ve had the most wonderful idea.”

Oh God, what?

“Your dad and I are coming into the city on Monday; book us dinner on any night, or lunch, breakfast, anything. I want to meet this young man of yours and if it has to be in a restaurant then so be it.”

“I’m not sure—”

“Derek, he can’t be busy every night next week, and every lunchtime, goodness me, we’ll even take a quick coffee if that is all he can manage.”

Shit. Shit. And double shit.

“I’ll see what I can organize.” I kept my tone regretful, to at least give the impression I would try to organize them meeting Marcus, but that it would be unlikely.

We finished the call, and I replaced the handset in the cradle, fighting the urge to throw it against the wall, sit and cry at my desk, or maybe, less drastically, move to Montana and become a cowboy.

So many lies.

There was no Moira standing at my door. It was still closed and I’d lied to my mom.

There were no kittens, I made those up, and the spider story. The word spider came about because when I’d been talking to my mom about Marcus and the kittens, a tiny spider had crawled over my notes.

I closed the notebook in which I had the names of five kittens with their various characteristics listed.

Mom wanted to meet Marcus, any night, any lunch, anytime.

Which sucked big hairy balls.

Because that was another thing I had made up.

There was no Marcus either.

Feel good about the holidays and grab a copy of RJ Scott’s Love Happens Anyway. Desperate Derek needed arm candy in the form of a fireman in order to get through the trappings of Christmas. Family obligations, work duties, everything he knew he should be doing, but needed someone to do it with.

Luke- a ex firefighter- injured on the job, needed money to keep the family bar afloat. Enter his buddy with a crazy proposition for Luke to be Derek’s pretend boyfriend.

Of course, since this is a feel-good Christmas story, one could surmise the direction of the tale. And Ms. Scott did not disappoint. Even though Derek was a tad bit over the top drama and a smidge whiny, I loved the chemistry between the two men. Ms. Scott developed their personalities so that, the reader must fall in love with them.

A sweet tale that will place a smile on your face.

Ben has Christmas, cats, and mistletoe on his side…. Jason doesn’t stand a chance

For Ben Slater, moving back to Bristol means being closer to his family, living with his best mate, and volunteering at the local animal shelter. But there’s also Jason, his best mate’s eldest brother. Ben’s had a crush on Jason for as long as he can remember, but the eleven-year age gap has always seemed insurmountable.

Jason Armitage works as a vet at his uncle’s practice. He owns a cute cottage on the outskirts of the city, and a loving dog. The one thing missing is someone to share it all with. His brother’s best friend seems a bad choice, but Jason can’t help taking a second look. Ben’s changed a lot since Jason last saw him; both in appearance and attitude. Gone is the shy young boy, replaced with a confident, twenty-four-year-old man.

In the run up to Christmas, the festive period gives Ben the ideal opportunity to show Jason what he has to offer. But concerns for his brother’s feelings hold Jason back. If they have any chance of making this work, Ben must convince Jason that he’s old enough to know what he wants, and Jason needs to believe that a relationship with his brother’s best friend won’t ruin their friendship.

Ben tried not to look, but inevitably his gaze was drawn to Jason still sat on the sofa. He stood as Pete stepped back, and Ben got a proper look at him. Ben wasn’t the only one who’d changed a little over the past couple of years. The last time he’d seen Jason, his hair had been short, like an army cut, and he’d had a beard. He’d looked hot then, but now…. Ben had to forcibly shut his mouth so he didn’t gape.
Jason’s thick dark hair, still shaved at the sides, was now a good couple of inches longer on top. And he was clean shaven. Ben kind of missed the beard, but without it Jason looked much younger, and his strong jawline was a thing of beauty. He looked thinner, too. Ben frowned because Jason ate like a horse and had always been bulkier than his brothers. That thought somehow made its way out of Ben’s mouth.
“Have you lost weight?”
Jason laughed softly, one hand immediately going to his stomach. He patted his belly and sighed. “God don’t you start. Mum’s already been on at me about not eating properly.” He pulled Ben in for a quick hug. “It’s good to see you, even if you do put the rest of us to shame.”
Oh God, that voice. As smooth and deep as Ben remembered.

Not Just for Christmas by Annabelle Jacobs was sweet and romantic. Crushing on his best friend’s brother, Ben decided to make his move upon moving back home and show Jacob exactly how he felt. Jacob, a number of years Ben’s senior, always knew the bratty kid had a thing for him, although the thought of coming between Liam (Jacob’s brother) and Ben kept him at a distant. Not to mention the age difference.

The tale was short and a lovely quick read. Low-angst in relationship, yet some excitement throughout.

Not Just for Christmas had well-developed secondary characters and animals which made a person smile.

Ms. Jacobs did a nice job of writing a sweet holiday story.

Lame since birth, Lawrence cannot imagine anyone wanting him, least of all Christy. But when Christy’s life threatens to spiral out of control, Lawrence steps in. Sweet and heart-breaking at the same time, The Mistletoe Kiss by Ruby Moone had an undertone of maudlin with an HEA on the horizon.

Set in the early 1800’s England, bad times befell young man Christy- an abusive life, a love of men- or at least one man in particular- owner of a book store, Lawrence. A time period tale, where sodomites were cast away or hanged, Christy kept his unrequited love to himself.

As circumstances unfolded, Ms. Moone showed her reader’s a depth and development to the characters, which allowed their lives to unfold and intertwine. I wouldn’t say this is a feel-good Christmas story, but more of a melancholy tale with a sweet ending.

The secondary characters added a different dimension and enhanced the tale. The Mistletoe Kiss was a pleasant read.

But, no one was cooperating.

You are invited to celebrate the holidays with Peter, Sally and their daughter, Lily, at the Warfield Manor. There’s no murder to solve or a criminal to catch, but there are secrets to be revealed.

This book will be more enjoyable if you have read any of the other Warfield Hotel books. Like a beautiful package wrapped up with a shining bow on top, there's a happy ending for all.

Author Bio

C. J. Baty lives in southwest Ohio. Her heart, however, lives in the mountains of Tennessee where she hopes to retire some day. The mountains have always provided her with inspiration and a soothing balm to the stresses of everyday life.

The dream of writing her own stories started in high school but was left on the back burner of life until her son introduced her to fan fiction and encouraged her to give it a try. She found that her passion for telling a story was still there and writing them down to share with others was much more thrilling than she had ever expected.

She has a loving and supportive family who don't mind fixing their own meals when she is in the middle of a story, and a network of friends who have encouraged and cheered her on in her quest of being an author.

One thing she has learned from life and she is often heard to say is: “You are never too old to follow your dream!”

A Warfield Christmas by C.J. Baty was a nice addition to a lovely series.
All the favorites came home to celebrate the holidays, life, and love. I would definitely recommend reading the series in order, as to know the characters and the fate of their lives.

Justin and Marcus, Robert and Damien, Peter and family, all had a storyline in making the book something special.

Ms. Baty left no stone unturned as she regaled us with their lives moving forward and becoming the extended family they always desired.

A Warfield Christmas was feel-good, put a smile on your face, heartwarming story.

Ace and Gavin have a very open relationship in Silvia Violet’s Three Under the Christmas Tree. Desiring to spice up their relationship and needing a kick a** gift for Gavin, Ace decided to search for a third to add flavor to their lives.

Enter Jonathon-not a stranger to being a third- found himself in the throes of passion with the two men.

Ms. Violet delivered a sexy read with three men destined to be together. Their personalities meshed and the sexual chemistry ran amok.

I enjoyed the story and the characterization presented by the author. Likeable, sexy, and fun.

Not the sweet bedtime Christmas tale, but a lusty story of sexual desires.

S.E.X. Review~ Surrendering for Two by Morticia knight

Strength is found when surrendering to destiny.
Graham has suffered way too much at the hands of the Nall. Ever since he was enslaved after the invasion, he’s been raped and tortured by the Alasharian Supreme Commander and his cohorts. Condemned to die by hanging for his part in the human rebellion, Graham gives in to the inevitable, no longer caring if he lives or dies. But an unexpected event occurs and, at the last moment, Graham is saved.
Balor is a guard to the Nall, but he’s also a part of the growing rebellion among the Alasharians. When one of the Nall’s advisors enlists his help in getting a human prisoner to safety, Balor comes to his aid. Startled by the soul match hum that sparks to life when he touches Graham, but unable to do anything about it, Balor is determined to protect his human match at all costs. When Advisor Oman arrives on the scene to rescue Balor as he helps Graham to escape, it becomes clear that yet another alien/human triad is forming—even if Graham may never accept being bonded to two aliens after the trauma he’s endured at the hands of Alasharians.
The time has come to depart to the secret military complex where the human and Alasharian allies will stage their final assault against the Nall and the Void. Families are reunited and others torn apart as they prepare for battle. The allies fear what will become of them all if Chris, the special human Sha Sha Ar has chosen as their spiritual leader, is no longer there to guide them.
Reader advisory: This book contains scenes of battle violence, and mentions of rape and torture.

Surrendering for Two by Morticia Knight added depth and more understanding to her sci-fi series Soul Match. Graham, Balor, and Oman were the center of book four. Human Graham, a slave to the Alasharians under the spell of the Nall, escaped with the help of fellow humans and his soul match, Balor. Thrusted together in an unconventional time, Graham must learn to take on a new role in his life with the surviving humans and Alasharians.

I enjoyed the matchup of the three men. A different spin on their dynamics, the three found a synergy that worked for them sans interference of others and enabling them to satisfy the mating hum.

Ms. Knight kept me interested, but I felt as if the story abruptly ended. I’ll definitely be coming back for more, as more questions arose, the more I read.

S.E.X. Spotlight~ Play by the Rules by Frey Ortega

It was just supposed to be an interview.
It was just supposed to be one morning.
It was just supposed to be a memory...
How did it end up like this?

Sensitive and melodramatic Emmett Yang has had enough of the dating world. Enter Joe Kaminski, former quarterback--driven, determined, recently out of the closet--and knows exactly who he wants. That just happens to be Emmett.

Emmett is convinced that their chance meeting is just a one-time thing: a memory to be cherished. He doesn't think that Joe would ever really want to be with him. After all, he's...him, and Joe is Joe. He's nowhere near Joe's nebula, and there are rules and norms and mores to be followed about this sort of situation, none of which end with Joe and him together.

But can the former quarterback show Emmett that there are no rules in love?

Play by the Rules is a standalone gay romantic comedy in the first-person perspective. This book is steamy and includes full sex scenes, searing kisses, dramatic declarations of love and a protagonist's questionable knowledge of sexual health. It is a HEA, has no cliff-hangers or cheating, and is approximately 59,000 words.

About the Author:

Frey Ortega writes erotic romance, primarily of the gay variety. He lives in what a friend affectionately calls “the south-easternmost part of Spain,” which is an archipelago called the Philippines. He’s a graduate of the Royal, Pontifical, and Catholic University in Manila, with a Bachelors of Science degree in Psychology. Primarily, he works as a writer, a novelist, sometimes a video game journalist, and overall a homebody who spends way too much time on the internet.

He loves writing about people, especially people of all different shapes, sizes and backgrounds, falling in love. You might also find him playing video games from time to time! His favorite ones are MMORPGs, and role-playing games in general (and not just the ones in the bedroom.)
