S.E.X. Review~ Rough Edges by Cardeno C.

Kyle has an unwelcome crush on his nemesis Brent. Brent has a welcome crush on his friend Kyle. As it turns out, the line between a friend and an enemy doesn’t have to be a line at all.
Born on the wrong side of the tracks to the wrong family, Kyle Potter has spent his life clawing his way toward a better future. When he gets the perfect job at the perfect firm in perfect Los Angeles, Kyle is sure there are only blue skies ahead. And then he meets perfect Brent Haralson.
Born with a silver spoon to a well-established family, Brent Haralson has never been interested in leveraging his connections. Friends, success, and dates come easily to Brent and rejection isn’t something he has to deal with in life. And then he meets perfect Kyle Potter.
Kyle despises his unwelcome crush on his lazy, arrogant nemesis. Brent welcomes his feelings for his stubborn, brilliant friend. As it turns out, the line between a friend and an enemy doesn’t have to be a line at all.
This is a 2nd edition without substantive changes from the 1st edition, which was part of the It Was Always You anthology.

Kyle and Brent have an interesting love-hate relationship in Cardeno C.’s Rough Edges- although the hate was one-sided.

Kyle was born poor and made it a mission in life to better himself and become a solid, hard-working man. Brent was born rich and never had to work a day in his life- enjoying his spoils on his own terms. Unfortunately, Kyle’s resentment of Brent left him feeling disgust, a tad bit shame, and an even surprising dose of lust.

What I enjoyed about Rough Edges, was the author’s ability to turn unforeseen circumstances into fortuitous events, thus facilitating a mutual understanding between the two men. Everything was not what it seemed and the author allowed the story, (albeit short) to evolve.

Having said that, I also felt Kyle was whiny and critical about issues that were not of his concern. And although I believe he did fall for the rich boy, his attitude permeated throughout the tale and left this reader with a slightly sour taste in her mouth.

Still, a short story worth reading, as Cardeno C. never fails to deliver a wonderfully driven book.

S.E.X. Review~ Jumping In by Cardeno C.

When love's on the line, the brave jump in with both feet...
Small town cop Clint Rivera can’t catch a break. His ex of two weeks is suddenly getting married, his dogs tore up his furniture, he’s getting evicted, and he’s out of beer. When he decides to solve his alcohol shortage by going to his ex’s engagement party, Clint winds up too drunk to drive himself home. Enter gorgeous deputy mayor Hawk Black, the man who constantly shows up unexpectedly and sends Clint’s body and mind into a tailspin with nothing but his whiskey voice and blue eyes.
After months of patience, Hawk can finally seduce the man he’s been craving. Clint’s day might not have started out well, but Hawk’s going to make sure it ends with a bang, preferably in bed. He’ll show Clint some rewards are worth the risk.
With love on the line, Clint will need to decide if he can open his heart, tear down his shields, and jump in with both feet.
This is a 2nd edition without substantive changes from the 1st edition.
Jumping In by Cardeno C. was a quick sexy read that satisfied and tantalized the senses. Hawk, small town deputy mayor had his eye on Officer Clint and knew he wanted the man for himself. Clint, in the midst of ending a bad closeted relationship was about to fall into a bottle, if not for the quick action of Hawk.

Hawk and Clint were yummy together. Hawk was forthright and honest in his feelings and Cardeno C. delivered macho meets romantic as she conveyed Hawk’s personality.

Clint, too, held romance in his heart and the melding of these two personalities added spice to this tale. Together, the men set the sheets ablaze and wormed their way into each other’s hearts and this reader.

A short tale that packed a lot~ Cardeno C. is always a go-to.

S.E.X. Spotlight~ Falling Hard by Dale Cameron Lowry

Blurb

Falling Hard features nine of Dale Cameron Lowry’s best short romance stories, available for the first time in one book. Meet a sign language interpreter who finds unexpected love at middle-age, college students in their first relationships, a vampire who would rather be a vegan, and a proudly gay ex-Mormon atheist who sells Bibles for a living. From sweet to erotic, this collection exhibits the quirkiness, fun, and diversity Dale's writing is known for.

Here are just a few of the stories in Falling Hard:
  • Loggerhead — Soon after they fall in love, Jake makes Eric a promise inspired by an old track uniform. But demanding work schedules at Jake’s four-star restaurant and Eric’s newspaper keep them from following through. Six years later, they take the honeymoon they never had, heading to the Florida coast in search of sea turtles—and rekindling their passion for each other in the process.
  • Sweeter Than Blood — Keith was a vegan before a hot encounter with a stranger turned him into a vampire. In the year since, his sire, John, has tried to make up for the mistake by teaching Keith everything he knows about being a non-murderous bloodsucker. But temptation is strong in the form of Andres, a regular customer at the barbershop where Keith works. When Andres finally asks Keith on a date, the real danger begins.
  • Rough Love — Blake thinks new boyfriend Michael doesn't like French kissing. Michael thinks Blake doesn't like rough sex. Neither are virgins, except in the art of conversation. Can they set things straight before the honeymoon's over?
  • Pacific Rimming — On Mike's fortieth birthday, his husband, Ken, takes him on vacation to Vancouver Island in Western Canada to celebrate. While Mike mourns his loss of youth, Ken encourages him to recapture it by bedding a gorgeous twenty-something man they encounter while hiking in Pacific Rim National Park. A night of no-holds-barred passion among the three men reveals a sizzling chemistry, and when Mike and Ken return home they find themselves longing to reconnect with the young Jason. Can what started as a one-night stand transform into a threesome that lasts?

Excerpt

From Rough Love:
I was getting my tablet out when he strolled in. I swear I stopped breathing as soon as I looked up and saw him. Or rather, his ass. My eyes stopped before they could go any higher. He was wearing a pair of mustard-colored stretch jeans with a back seam that perfectly split his behind into two succulent buns as round and steaming as a pair of dinner rolls fresh out of the oven. I like to tell people I fell in love with him at first sight. But let’s be honest: It was pure, unadulterated lust. I’d never seen such an appetizing ass, and it wasn’t for want of looking. I’d spent my first year of college shaking off my conservative Idaho upbringing and transforming myself into a proud gay slut, burying my sheathed cock in as many manly bottoms as presented themselves to me. My favorites were the repressed macho football player-types who pretended to be tops until the clothes came off, then begged for a good pounding as soon as I skirted a spit-slicked finger over their puckers. If they wanted me to spank and bite their pretty keisters, well, all the better. I loved the springiness of a well muscled tush and would have been happy to prod and poke the best of them for hours, if only my dick would last so long. But Michael’s ass was even better than a quarterback’s rippling derrière. No amount of working out could have created such perky perfection. It was a gift from God, more beautiful than the smooth marble rump of Michelangelo’s David. “Um, hello?” A voice came from somewhere above my head. The person owning the flawless backside turned around, removing it from my field of vision and replacing it with an equally flawless frontside. I’m pretty sure my gasp was audible. He had a bulge as big as Mount Rainier. It was more than my mind could comprehend at such an early hour. I looked for something less intimidating to focus on, my eyes skimming over his fitted blue polo shirt and caramel arms until I found his face. I probably gasped again. The man was gorgeous, with a plump, kissable mouth and chocolate brown eyes rimmed with velvety lashes. “Er, hi.” His lips curled into a lopsided grin. His teeth showed when he smiled. They were perfect—not too big and too small, and slightly rounded at the corners instead of sharp squares. They reminded me of freshwater pearls. One of his teeth in the bottom row was slightly crooked, which lent a laissez-faire sort of joy to his grin. I liked that. He sat down next to me, all casual, as if getting visually groped by other guys was an everyday occurrence for him. “You an ass man, huh?” Heat spread from my chest to my ears. When I blush, I turn the approximate color of a cherry Froot Loop. Not what I wanted to look like at the moment—not if I wanted to make a good impression on Mr. Perfect Ass. “Sorry. I wasn’t trying to, um, objectify you. Or make you uncomfortable.” His smile grew. “I’m not uncomfortable. As for objectifying me, we can start the de-objectification process as soon as class is over if you let me take you out for coffee. We’ll get to know each other as the multifaceted human beings we are.” He looked me up and down, his eyes lingering on my chest. I’d been doing a lot of weights that summer, and it was in the best shape it had ever been. I was glad I’d chosen a tight gray T-shirt that morning to show off its contours. He raised one eyebrow and leaned in close, like he had a secret to share. “And maybe I’ll learn to stop objectifying you.”

S.E.X. Review~ Blue Rey by Cree Storm

Nothing in life comes for free....Rey had never felt as if he fit in anywhere. Even learning he had two brothers didn't really change that. However, having Dustin and Winter brought into his life helped ease his loneliness. The day Rey was told that these two men were his life mates was scary, yet amazing. Finally he would not have to go through life only able to count on himself...he would have his hippo and shark shifter mates to help him every step of the way....but it would definitely come at a cost.
Dustin hurt for his mate. He knew the little red panda shifter was sad and felt like an outcast in Haven. That couldn't be further from the truth, but he didn't know how to help him through it. Going to Winter, the two men came up with a plan. However soon that plan was put on hold.
They had all been warned that it was up to them to help save the paranormal/shifter world. However, being forced to go to the one Island no one ever entered, was not something any of them had planned out or thought through. It was just a fact that there was no choice if their destiny was to be fulfilled. The question was would they even make it to the Island alive and even if they did, would they live to tell about it.

Blue Rey, the next installment in the Haven Ranch series by Cree Storm further took the reader into the lives of three brothers. Destined to mate two men and save the shifter world, Rey, the introverted sibling was thrust into a new world with insecurities, destinies, and a dose of love. I definitely recommend the books be read in order as they are a HFN with a continued arc throughout the series.

Ms. Storm built a fascinating world of shifters- new and old- in which their mutual understanding and acceptance was paramount to their survival. The overall premise was well- developed and delivered. My only drawback was the lack of editing in the book. An abundance of mistakes took me out of the story more than once, and created a disjointedness in the reading.

S.E.X.~ Rainbow Snippets

Life has been so crazy, but I'm finally back and sharing this week's Rainbow Snippet

Be sure to check out the link and enjoy all the Snippeteers and their great reads~

Today I'd like to share six lines from my new release, Jaeger, Order of the Black Knights.

Each book is a stand alone and by a different author.

Enjoy!

"My liege.” Jaeger bowed his head to his new king.
“Come. You must accomplish a simple task before we begin our journey to join the others. Lord Wren.”
At those words, Jaeger looked up. Lord Wren, the man he envied. The man who had no care for the despair of the villagers or Jaeger.
“Yes, my liege?”
“Kill him.”

S.E.X. New Release~ Jaeger

Order of the Black Knights
US Marshal Jaeger Tripp is assigned to the Federal Witness Protection Program. The hurt and destruction he’s seen—along with protecting criminals who are only cooperating with the authorities to keep themselves out of jail—have left him with a bleak and jaded view of both life and people. His current assignment is Wren O’Riley, a computer wizard who witnessed a high-profile cartel hit.
To Jaeger, Wren is the same as any other job. He must protect him long enough to get him to testify at trial, and his personal feelings have no place in his work and must be set aside. But that’s easier said than done. On the run and fighting for their lives, Jaeger and Wren can’t help but grow closer. And Jaeger can’t help seeing beyond Wren’s nerdy exterior to a man who might be just what Jaeger needs to settle his soul and capture his heart—if they survive long enough to get that chance.

Prologue 1981

OPPRESSIVE HEAT caused the sweat to trickle down Jaeger’s back and pool at the waistband of his camouflage BDUs. For three fucking days, he’d been entrenched in the mosquito-ridden jungle of Colombia, waiting for his mark, Carlos Quintanilla—drug runner, coca grower, and major player in the Colombian cartel. He and his team were paid handsomely to sit, wait, and dispose of a target. And though the original twenty-four hours—in, shoot, and out—had grown to three days, mercenaries were paid to wait under any conditions.
Once the deed was done, he would trek four klicks through the jungle and rendezvous with the team, cross into Venezuela, and transform into a businessman for the trip back to the States. With his payoff, he planned to retire—hang up his hat as a killer for hire and live on an island in peace and quiet. Maybe. If the nightmares stopped and gave him respite.
He watched through his rifle sight as Quintanilla lumbered along the edge of the pool of his multi-million-dollar fortress. Security was a priority for him, but that was of little consequence to Jaeger, who was perched approximately half a mile away from the complex in a makeshift tree stand with his Remington 700, nicknamed Lolita. He waited.
Movement to the right of the pool caught his attention. Jaeger shifted ever so slightly as the slim figure of a man dressed in blue flowered board shorts, a white undershirt, and flip flops approached Quintanilla. The young man couldn’t have been more than twenty-four.
A dirty blond mop of hair fell over his eyes. His skin was only slightly tanned, as though it had been kissed by the sun, and his ass was meant to be grabbed.
Jaeger didn’t have time to ogle over some squeeze Quintanilla kept at his house. Or maybe the young man was the drug runner’s son. Intel reported that Quintanilla’s wife, children, and mistress were away on vacation. So either the young man was a fuck buddy or a returning son, there to see daddy. Additionally, the team had watched the workers and security guards and knew the next few days were the only time that month Quintanilla would be alone. It looked like a vacation from the world. Quintanilla sent everyone else away and stayed to enjoy the amenities he acquired by dipping his hands into blood money. Carlos Quintanilla believed himself so powerful that no one would dare to touch him. He’d soon be proven wrong.
“Target in sight.” Jaeger spoke softly into the mic attached to the lapel of his camouflage shirt. The earpiece in his right ear crackled with static.
“Can you take the shot, Arrow One?” The speaker, located approximately four kilometers away, waited with the rest of the team for Jaeger to complete the deed and return to the rendezvous point.
“Roger, Base One. Shot available, but there’s a slight problem. The target is not alone. Over.”
Jaeger waited for base to confirm or negate his mission. He hoped it was a go, because if not, the sitting in a mosquito-infested jungle, being eaten alive would have been for naught. And that would highly piss him off.
“Can you take them both out, Arrow One?”
Jaeger thought and quickly contemplated the speed of the traveling bullet, the wind velocity, and the reaction time for the second target to move and attempt to take cover and fall at Quintanilla’s feet. He couldn’t guarantee it.
“Negative, Base One. Advise.” Jaeger waited.
Sitting in the jungle required patience, which any mercenary or sniper had in spades. The average man found it torturous to sit in silence for three minutes. Jaeger did it for days at a time. So the five minutes it took for base to get back to him was nothing. If Quintanilla attempted to leave the premises, Jaeger would have to either take him out and leave the young man alive or try to eradicate both of them.
“Base One to Arrow One. Over.”
“Arrow One here.”
“It’s a go, Arrow One. Target first, then the secondary. Take the trip to the destination and see if any cleaning is required. We are still a go for the meet. Over.”
“Roger, Base One. Over.”
Jaeger had the green light. Kill Quintanilla, shoot the young man, and confirm both kills. Jaeger had no doubt Carlos Quintanilla would be dead, but was not sure of the second target. He’d put a bullet in him on sight, if needed.
Jaeger peered through the lens, blinked his eyes to refocus, and stared at Quintanilla. He and his blond companion were seated side by side in chaise longues. The young man’s hands moved earnestly, as if the talk was at the forefront of his young life. Jaeger inhaled and filled his lungs. The feel of Lolita against his cheek and on his shoulder and the caress of the scope and wood stock comforted him but had also brought him great pain. But this was not the time to become maudlin. He had a job. One that would enlarge his bank account and maybe deliver the solace he’d struggled so hard to find.
Ever so slowly he released his breath as his index finger rested on the trigger. As he let go the last of his breath, Jaeger squeezed the trigger. The whiz of the bullet rang through the air and blended with the cacophony of birds in the untamed Colombian jungle. Jaeger released the shell, inhaled again, and aligned his second shot. Dead-on, the bullet pierced Carlos Quintanilla’s skull, and blood oozed from the hole. Quintanilla fell over in the lounger. The young man dropped to his knees and covered his mouth with his hands. The angle of his body made it impossible for Jaeger to kill him, but he’d maim him until he was onsite and could finish the deed. This better involve a bonus. And not a two-fer-one sale.
The second shot, strategically aimed at the young man’s side, tore through his ribs and pierced a lung, incapacitating him until Jaeger arrived. The man dropped.
Jaeger slung his minipack onto his back, hoisted Lolita onto his shoulder by her strap, and jogged through the foliage. Normally the slight trek would have taken about ten minutes on solid ground, but in the thick of the Colombian jungle, half a mile could take up to an hour. Jaeger didn’t have the luxury of wasted time. He humped the half mile as fast and expediently as the surrounding area allowed and arrived at the fortress in less than thirty minutes.
Careful and mindful of any unwanted guests, Jaeger quickly entered through a low-lying wall on the back side and made his way to the pool area. The silence was welcome, except for the slight whimpers of the wounded bystander. Jaeger verified Quintanilla’s death and turned his attention to the young man who struggled for breath as his lungs obviously filled with blood and his heart enlarged and worked overtime to pump. Blood trickled from the corner of his mouth. His soulful chocolate-brown eyes pooled with tears as he peered up at Jaeger. Blood, snot, and tears did not detract from the young man’s good looks. In retrospect Jaeger realized he was Quintanilla’s son and not a boy toy.
Jaeger removed his Sig from the side holster and aimed. The young man resignedly closed his eyes. Sadness illuminated Jaeger’s soul at the prospect of taking an innocent, but no witnesses were allowed. And Jaeger was paid to kill. He wasn’t quite sure where his feeling emanated from, but a job was a job, and Jaeger and the team were being paid handsomely. The boy had the misfortune to be born into the Quintanilla family and grow up the son of a notorious drug runner. Maybe not so innocent, then—tainted by his genealogy. Jaeger pulled the trigger. The sound was louder than usual.

A hunted pirate captain. A reverend's daughter determined to bring him down.

On a lush, secluded island, one passionate adventure leads to another….

Diana Fletcher means business. The beautiful, innocent, reverend’s daughter has traveled all the way to a tropical island off Madagascar on a mission: To find her brother—and to punish the man who drove him to a life of piracy. But when she comes face to face with the enemy in question, the handsome, powerfully seductive man is not at all what Diana expected…

Tristan Kent never intended to harm Diana’s brother. A man of humble origins, Tristan claims he tried to save him from another ruthless captain. Diana is desperate to believe he is telling the truth…and that the intoxicating desire that escalates between them is true as well. But can she trust him? Or is Tristan’s story—and his heart—nothing more than fool’s gold? Amid the haze of sensual delights and soaring ecstasy Tristan has in store for her, all will be revealed…

Excerpt:

Women hadn’t been born to yield. Women could yield. They might even enjoy doing so,
but only with the right man. One they desired. First came desire. Respect and
love followed.

She could only deliver her heart to a man like that.

Even if Tristan wasn’t facing the gallows, he wasn’t the one she needed. His skin

was warm against hers but what of it. He was handsome as the devil, yet there
was the rub, because he was also brutal, violent, taking what he wanted.
His mouth on hers was something she refused to consider, though she could
hardly forget how he’d spoken calmly when she’d railed. She insulted and he smiled.
He claimed she wanted the same as him.
Diana did not. She wanted to be home. She needed to be free.

Her eyes flew open. A sound or voice had awakened her. Reclined on her side,

she faced away from the door. An oil lamp had gone out, telling her she’d
slept far too long, recklessly too.

Oh my God. Peter.

Diana rolled onto her back but didn’t check his mattress, knowing he wasn’t there or

in the cabin.

Tristan was. His long legs, muscular calves, and thighs blocked her view of the door.

He’d placed his precious book on the table. The volume was safe. She was not.

Before she could push to a sitting position or think to fight, he straddled her, his hands

circling her wrists, holding her arms to each side. His touch didn’t harm, at least not yet.

Her heart pounded.

He offered a smile.

How dare he be so smug. “Release me at once.”

He tightened his grip slightly and studied her mouth, then her eyes.

“Violet.” Awe flooded his face. “I wondered about your eye color but never expected this.”

She pushed and writhed but did no good against his strength. Breathless, she stopped.

“What have you done with Peter?”

Tristan stared at her eyes. “Amazing color, quite beautiful. Fits your dark hair and pale skin perfectly.”

She rammed her thighs into him.

He held her more firmly. “Stop that.”

“Not until you tell me what you’ve done with my brother.” She slammed into him.

He scooted down and trapped her legs. “Peter’s on the main deck with the other men.”

“He’s a child and proved it by helping you escape.”

“This wasn’t his doing, and you’ve no reason to fear for his safety. I have James, my quartermaster, looking after him.”

“A bloody pirate, you mean. The same as you. Perhaps even worse than you.”

“No. James is a good man.” A haunted look touched Tristan’s features before

he shook off whatever had troubled him and became casual. “He saved my life.
He’ll take great care to watch your brother.”

She wanted to retort but couldn’t reconcile her indignation with Tristan’s previous

anguish and the mean scratches she’d left on his cheek. Dried blood had gone black,
the surrounding skin swollen and red. “What do you mean he saved your life?”

“Just that, ask no more for I’ll give you no other answer.”

“The only thing I want from you is my freedom.”

He stroked her wrists. “You want the same as me.”

She pushed against him, straining with the effort.

He tightened his grip, proving she wasn’t a match for his strength. If he chose to

take her now, she’d have no choice except to allow him what he willed.

She didn’t beg. Wouldn’t. Not to him or any man, including Bishop. They could

conquer her body but not her spirit, never her heart. Reconciled to her fate,
she grew limp as she could, pulse racing. “Take what you’ve come for and
be quick about it.”

“I shan’t be quick, Diana. With you, I’ll never be quick.”

Heat stung her face and throat. “You won’t be the last, either.”

His gray eyes darkened as storm clouds do, danger building in them.

“What do you mean?”

“When you’re finished with me, I go to the man to whom I truly belong. Nothing will change

that no matter how long you intend to take raping me.”

Despite her harsh words, he didn’t flinch or frown.

“Who is this man with whom you’d willingly lie?”

“Willingly?” She laughed. “You believe I’ve chosen him any more than I’ve chosen you?

The fact is you’ve driven me to him.”

“What do you mean? Who is he? Tell me.”

She turned her face away.

Tristan brushed his lips over her cheek and buried his face in her hair.

Her scalp tingled. She could scarcely draw enough air to speak. “I said, be quick about it.”

He took his time, his lips soft and warm against her temple and ear, breath heated and sweet.

She tensed even more, determined to resist.

“Why do you fight me when you want this as much as I do?” He kissed her jaw.

Pleasure rushed through her, delight making her come alive as she never had,

the feelings new, troubling, far too exciting. Her lids slid down.

“Tell me who the man is.”

Tristan’s scent surrounded her, surprisingly clean, tinged with musk.

“Tell me, Diana.”

“Why?”

He suckled her neck.

She trembled, an unfamiliar ache building between her legs, tension mounting within her. Flustered, she fought his hold and failed, growing weak from his imposing size. However, she refused to surrender, wanting him to know what he’d done to her. “He’s a wealthy

merchant who agreed to help me find Peter if I promised to become his mistress, which I shall.”

“Never.” His breath skipped over her skin. “No one will have you but me.”

She fumed, her previous weakness gone. “You’ll take me. You’ll never have me.”

“Nor will the wealthy merchant. He owns this ship? Is his name Benedict Bishop?”

Tristan kept surprising her, giving her no defense. She pushed against him.

He eased back. “Is that the merchant’s name?”

“Yes. He’s the man to whom I belong.”

“Not any longer.”
