“You’re awfully quiet. Are you sure you’re okay?” Jules asked as the sign for the hospital came into view.
He nodded, taking a deep breath. “I’m fine, just thinking.” Turning to see how she was reacting to the situation, Ando decided to be honest with her, or at least marginally. “I lost my fiancΓ©e in a boating accident. She fell overboard, hitting her head. I held her while she…anyway, I don’t think this little scratch is going to do me in.” He touched the bandage, his fingers came away with a red stain.
“I’m so sorry. I can’t imagine losing someone you love like that.” She pressed trembling lips together.
Ando saw her eyes glitter with tears. Holy shit, this woman who didn’t know him or anything about his past was ready to cry for his loss. Without thinking he put his hand on her thigh. “It was a long time ago.” No longer did his heart squeeze at the words. No longer did he want to go back to the past and shake Melanie, demanding answers. No, only a sense of grief for the loss of life, hers and the child even though it wasn’t his, hit him.
Jules swallowed audibly. “I’m still sorry. Losing a loved one, no matter how long ago, hurts.”
He wondered who she’d lost and if it was a lover. His thoughts were cut off as she pulled into the ER entrance. “I can drop you at the doors and park, or park and we can go in together?” she asked.
Realizing his hand was still on her thigh, he pulled back. “Park and we’ll walk in together. I’m not an invalid even though I seem to be bleeding like a stuck pig.”
She laughed, easing the tension. “You really are, aren’t you?”
They found a spot in the front as another vehicle pulled out. “Eureka,” Jules said while they waited for the SUV to move. “This must be our lucky night.” She then looked at his bloody bandage, then grimaced. “Or not,” she corrected.
“Come on, woman, let’s get me stitched up so I don’t need to get a transfusion,” he joked, or at least hoped he wouldn’t need one. Hell, he honestly had no clue if he’d lost enough blood to need one.
“Nah, you won’t need one of those. It only seems like you’ve lost a shitton of the stuff.” She reached for the door handle. “You ready?”
“You bet. Let’s get this over with. I might need to hold your hand when they stitch me up.” He grinned.
Hopping down she met him in the front of the pickup, engaging the alarm with a press of the keyfob. “I highly doubt that, but I’ll stick by your side just in case you pass out.”
Ando couldn’t believe how easy it was to talk and joke with Jules, a woman he’d just met. Although it could be the knock to his head. However, he doubted that had anything to do with it.
The emergency room was bustling with activity. Jules seemed to know several of the workers and was immediately recognized. If they’d been in Miami, he’d have been whisked back to a private area in minutes. Now, he sat in a chair filling out paperwork while the woman who’d brought him in chatted with a man who looked old enough to be her damn uncle, or dad, and Ando didn’t like it one damn bit.
He finished the last of the paperwork, then got up to turn it into the nurse at the front. She glanced up, smiled then he was taken back to a small room marked triage made up of glass enclosures. Jules was still locked in a conversation with the older man and another had joined them. So much for her sticking next to him.
“Your blood pressure is a little high,” the nurse said making notes.
Taking a deep breath, he looked away from Jules and the spectacle she was making. He smiled at the middle-aged nurse wearing the red scrubs, thinking it was a truly poor choice in color choice. “Sorry, try it again. I was a bit nervous.” He steadied his breathing and thought of nothing in particular.
“Much better.” She made the correction, then led him into another room down the hall after getting all his vitals. “Alright, the ER Doc will be with you shortly. I’d offer you something to drink, but just in case you need surgery, which I don’t think you will, we can’t just yet.” She winked. “Now, if you need anything just press this here button. My name is Louise.” The woman left as quickly as she ushered him in.
He looked at the bed and the lone chair in the small cubicle they called a room, then decided the bed looked like the best option since he’d have to sit there when the doctor came in anyway. Pulling his cellphone out of his pocket, he decided to text his sister a pic of himself with the wound. If nothing else, she’d get a kick out of his predicament.
Gia’s immediate response brought a smile to his lips. Only a sister would tell her brother it was an improvement to his regular ugly mug, followed by a ‘how you doin’ meme.
He let her know he was fine, and would update on the number of stiches afterwards. Of course, she wants all the details, which he’d gloss over as best he could when he got home.
The sound of the curtain being pulled open had him looking up from his phone to find Jules there.
“Hey there,” Jules said.
****
Jules tried to paste on a happy appearance, but being waylaid by one of the officers who’d worked the night she’d saved Marietta brought her mood south. To top it off, she then had to deal with Sean, a guy she’d dated off and on, more off than on asking her about Ando and her. Jeez, couldn’t a girl catch a break from all the drama?
“Hey,” Ando said.
If artic glare could describe the way his dark eyes stared at her, then that was what he gave her.
“Sorry I left you earlier. That was one of the cops who was on duty on a case I was involved in. He was giving me an update on it.” She shut her mouth when he narrowed his eyes.
“I thought you were an EMT?”
In for a penny and all that she thought. “I am, but sometimes life brings you into situations out of your control. I was walking along the beach one night and stumbled upon a scene straight out of a nightmare. Suffice it to say, I inadvertently saved a young woman’s life.”
When Ando opened his mouth to ask more questions she was sure, the curtain was pulled back, saving her from having to answer and relive the horrifying night again.
“Good evening, Mr. Delgado. What do we have here?”
Jules stood to the side while a man in scrubs came in, his name tag said his name was Dr. Torres.
“Evening, Dr. Torres. I fell off the end of the boat dock and hit my head.” Ando indicated his head.
Dr. Torres went through some routine questions and tests, then pulled the bandage away. “Looks like someone cleaned you up pretty good,” he stated.
“Jules here is an EMT with Dallas Fire and Rescue.” Ando’s gaze landed on her.
If she didn’t know better she’d swear he sounded proud of her. “I cleaned it out and made sure there wasn’t any foreign bodies in the wound, then got him here as quickly as safety allowed.”
“You did a good job. Head wounds tend to bleed like a sieve. Let’s get you stitched up and out of here quickly, son.”
She met Ando’s eyes as Dr. Torres and the nurse set up the instruments needed. “You doing okay?”
Ando nodded. “Yeah, I can handle it. You gonna hold my hand?”
Her breath stalled in her throat. “Sure.” The word came out breathlessly.
“Alright, Suzy is going to clean it up a bit more just to make sure it’s one hundred percent clean. Not that I don’t trust your abilities, young lady, but we don’t want to have anything foreign inside there when we seal him up. I’d say you’ll have about five stitches.” Dr. Torres took off his gloves and made some notes while the nurse named Suzy came forward.
“This is definitely going to hurt a little.” Her dark brown hair was pulled back in a low ponytail, true regret rang through in her tone.
Ando held his hand out toward Jules. Without hesitation she took it, entwining their fingers. “I’ll hold still, just work quickly.”

“Okay so you want grand, extreme and flamboyant.
How about I put some ideas together and send them over?”

“Are you not bringing them to me?”
“No.”
“Tut, tut,” he said, wagging his finger at me. “Correction, you will bring them to me. I like the personal touch,” he quirked the corner of his mouth and winked.
He walked away like some goddamn prince.
“I think we should call a meeting ASAP.” I called after him.
“Absolutely, tomorrow, but remember,” he said, stood at the other side of the room, “I’m a busy man. I don’t hang around.”
He ambled back towards me. I stood digesting he
information.
“I can make some plans and see what you think.”
“Perfect, by the way cute ass and that blouse does nothing for your tits.”
“I wasn’t aware I asked your opinion.”
“You didn’t, but I bet when you’re wearing the right clothes you look scorching.” He wagged his brow.
The man clearly loved himself.
“Anyway, I need to be leaving. I have to put ideas together, if you could send me your e-mail address I can send ideas to you.”
“Bring your ideas to me. We have already discussed this it will give me a chance to admire you again, we could have a drink,” he cheekily grinned.
“I am simply working here on a project, not here for you to drool over.”
“Shame, I was hoping to try and get in your knickers, if you wear them, but looking at you, I’d say you’re wearing those big unsexy pants."
I choked on my saliva.
“Do you hold no shame?”
“No, not really, I am addicted to pussy. Now, I want you to bring the designs to me, no further ifs or buts…I am the one paying for you and expect,” he in fumed me with his cologne. “Something mind-fucking-blowing. If you catch my drift.”
I agreed.
“Fine, I will put some ideas together and bring them to you tomorrow."
“You’re leaving so soon,” he said, disappointed.
“I am a busy woman, Mr. Valentino. I have another client to see today.”
“I hope he doesn’t stare at your ass and tits."
I shot him a glare, narrowing my eyes.

It’s no secret I love a Cardeno C. book, but Smitty’s Sheriff did not do it for me. Richard and Todd were not only the most unlikely couple, I almost found them toxic.

One-time lovers, Richard dropped Todd like a hot potato- no explanation- and walked out of his life. According to Richard, it was him, not Todd, that caused him to walk away. Much older than Todd, Richard apparently wanted Todd to sow his oats, yet didn’t want him to have any other sexual relationships. Confused? Yes, I was just as confused by Richard’s characterization.

If the wonderful and talented Ms. C. was going for narcissistic and egomaniac then she hit the nail on the head delivering Richard’s personality. I hated Richard. He was condescending and treated Todd as a simpleton. Who tells a grown man to use the bathroom before they go out so he doesn’t fidget? IF Todd didn’t go to the bathroom that was his problem! At least men can go on the side of the road easier than women.

Unable to make decisions for himself, Todd, on the other hand was flighty and at times, I wondered if he played the “dumb and helpless” card on purpose and just a tad bit too much. He wasn’t submissive, he was a doormat- and that rubbed me the wrong way.

Everything about their relationship was a secretive fiasco, until the end when Richard miraculously decided he wanted a permanent relationship with Todd and Todd permitted him to control every aspect of his life. The two men even discussed the fine line between psychological domestic violence and how (according to Todd), their relationship was no such thing. I’d look again, Todd.

Regardless of my feelings for Smitty’s Sheriff, the next Cardeno C. book will be at the forefront of my e-reader- one of my favorite authors.

S.E.X. Spotlight~ Canute by Frey Ortega

Canute
(the Kindred Series)
by: Frey Ortega

An immortal soldier, tested in the fires of war…

In the aftermath of the attack on his brother and his family, Canute is coaxed into joining forces with another vampire family in the hopes of ending a long feud between two rivaling clans vying for control.

A false pretense…

Under the guise of a Kindred bond, Canute finds himself used as a pawn in some war he wants no part of. Angry, confused, and unable to trust himself, he loses his already tenuous control and becomes berserker, losing himself into the night.

Fighting with fear…

When Canute wakes up, he finds himself in the presence of a young man named Haru, who ends up being his true Kindred. Afraid that he’s still beguiled and unable to fully trust so soon after an immense betrayal, Canute has to fight past his fears and his weaknesses to accept his Kindred. Between immense betrayal and a war where no one can trust their judgment, can he learn to trust—and love—again?
-=-=-=-=-
CANUTE , the second book in the Kindred Series, is an M/M vampire romance with no cheating, no cliffhangers, and a happily-ever-after. Expect magic, a little angst, and just the tiniest bit of darkness!
-=-=-=-=-

Story Snippet:
Canute wondered how a young man could be so openly giving, so openly trusting, in this cruel, cruel world that they both lived in. He said he was a kami, so he had to know that there were evils lurking around every corner, right?
Still, he wasn’t about to turn down a drink. It was probably in part due to his interest in Haru, which was strong enough that Canute could consciously realize it, and another part due to his thirst. Desperate times called for desperate measures. And on the other hand, Canute wanted to feel that warmth and sunniness for himself.
Canute gingerly took a hold of Haru’s wrist, and he rubbed his thumb slowly across the middle, just firm enough to figure out where exactly the vein was. He lifted Haru’s arm up until it was mere inches away from his lips.
“Are you sure?” Canute asked.
Haru nodded. “It’s not going to hurt, right?”
Canute shrugged. He probably wasn’t being reassuring, but he didn’t know if Haru was particularly sensitive, or if he was somehow the type of creature who weakened easily. “It shouldn’t.”
Haru looked up at Canute, then back down at his wrist. He did this a couple of times, enough so that Canute realized that Haru was probably feeling a little conflicted.
“If you don’t want to, I can always just hunt outside,” Canute said, trying to reassure Haru. “I won’t hurt a human, if you’re worried about them. But a willing donor will always beat an unwilling victim.”
There was a flicker of uncertainty that Canute saw in those eyes, but it was enough for Canute to realize that toying with this young kami was perhaps too much for Haru. He’d gone from embarrassed and red in the face, to scared and nervous in the span of minutes.
Haru looked up at Canute, then back down at his wrist. Back up at his face, and then down at his wrist. This happened a number of times more, before the kami finally took a deep breath.
“Please, if it’ll help you, then you should have some,” Haru said. “Immodesty is a small price to pay for helping someone in need. Besides, this is for your health. It’s not like we’re doing anything bad.”
Canute couldn’t contain his surprise. He raised an eyebrow at Haru and nodded, the thought crossing his mind that he probably didn’t need to tease the younger man so much.
Canute yanked the young kami forward until Haru was only about a foot away from his body, and then he lifted the man’s wrist to his lips. He felt his fangs ache. His inner demon already wanted out. The gentle thrum of a pulse was so close, it would have been so easy to just take it…
The vampire stilled his body, taking a deep breath before baring his fangs. There was no better way to do this than just quickly—otherwise he would be going hungry for maybe a couple hours more, at best, and maybe even weeks at worst.
Canute plunged his fangs right into that vein, bursting with vitality and life and letting the taste, the essence, flow right into his lips. It made him shiver with both arousal and need.
Gods, Haru tasted like the sun. He tasted like warmth, and heat, and all the things that Canute didn’t know he could still feel. Haru’s blood was sweet and gentle, much like the man himself, and Canute knew he had to keep himself from drinking too much. Even though Haru was immortal, it wasn’t as though he was a fount of blood. Canute had to pace himself, both for his sake as well as Haru’s.
He might have been a monster, but he wasn’t that much of a monster.
One sip, and then another led to a groan coming out of his lips, and it preceded Haru’s own unceremonious squeak. Canute thought it was cute, much like the rest of Haru’s actions and his demeanor, and with every slow, but light sip he partook of the kami’s blood, he felt strength return to his body. Strong enough to feel, in full effect, how Haru made his cock rise in arousal, and things that once lay dormant inside him to come out, brimming with life.
When he looked up into Haru’s face, the expression that met his was flushed. Haru was biting down on the corner of his lower lip, and the effect was as immediate as it was strong. Canute wanted nothing more than to slide right into the kami’s body right there, and claim him.
It felt like something was clicking into place, and Canute needed to push it aside. If he did this, he would bring so much untold danger to these kind souls. No, he couldn’t think about the possibility…
The possibility that maybe, just maybe, this young kami was his actual Kindred.
Was this the universe’s way of righting a wrong, of giving him back his hope?

S.E.X. Review~ Dragon Hearts by Cree Storm

Rene and his men are known as D.O.A., Dragons of Anarchy. They were created centuries ago, by the great Heck, to find and destroy serialists by any means necessary. Each member was gifted with a dragon that was connected to their soul. If one died, so did the other. The men didn't shift into the dragon, but they would call out and the maharishi would join them in the fight against evil. Not wanting their secret discovered, D.O.A. lived in a town called Drago, just outside Poconos Boulevard, and they hid behind their image as a bad ass motorcycle club
Children were being murdered and Rene, otherwise known as Pit, along with his men were out to find out who was behind the copycat murders of a long time serial killer known as the Alphabet Killer. While questioning a victim's mother, Rene discovered his sentience, his mate. Now all he had to do was figure out how to tell the man he was not exactly human, and he better do it fast because his dragon heat was already kicking in.
Bren was the local town veterinarian. He figured something was off about SI Rene Telkin. If not from the leather jacket with a large D.O.A. patch on the back, then maybe because he drove a navy Blue Harley Davidson CVO Street glider instead of a tan sedan.
Bren was not the type to get mixed up with a biker club, even if the man was a cop. However, something kept drawing him to the sexy man and it seemed that nothing would break the bond they were forming. Not even when he discovered the secret all D.O.A. agents held. A large dragon for a partner.
Now Rene needs to do his best to claim his mate and also track down a serial killer, because on the last body was a note threatening the good doctor of Poconos Boulevard.

Dragon Hearts, D.O.A. by Cree Storm introduced us to a new world of dragon souls and their sentients. The Dragons of Anarchy, formed hundreds of years ago were not shifters, per say. They shared their bodies with their maharishis~ their dragon counterparts. Their focus~ keep mankind safe of the evils of the world.

In order to accomplish this talks the DOA formed a motorcycle club, while working for the federal government- the agents each had a special talent, used in all of their investigations.

Rene, the leader of DOA met his human mate, Bren a veterinarian. Although the men started off rocky, their relationship progressed at an even pace which set a well-defined tempo to the story. I enjoyed the new world Ms. Storm created, albeit a bit confusing with the many players introduced in book one. The men and all their nicknames were difficult to keep straight.

The dynamics between Rene, Bren, and the dragon soul (Azul) was interesting, but written in a way as to not be distracting nor confusing.

A few grammatical errors, but nothing to distract from the story. Overall a nice start to a new series and I look forward to book 2.
